her talent for subtlety
to a poignant tale

*
Almost every time I see Michelle Williams in a film, it occurs to me what a long way she’s come since the painfully over-processed dialogue of Dawson’s Creek. This role may be the epitome of that progression. Wendy and Lucy is as spare and realistic-looking a film as I’ve seen, and yet nothing about it struck me as empty. Maybe more amazing is the way Williams manages to wield more appeal the less extravagant her makeup and wardrobe are. Or maybe that’s just me.

But even if you don’t have a crush on Michelle Williams, her acting fits this film — a touchingly unique sort of buddy story — like a glove.

give us a leader
with the courage to make us
uncomfortable.

I just saw the movie I.O.U.S.A., which is far from a popcorn flick, but may be the most important film most people will ever see. It’s about the national debt, and includes commentary from several expert voices from various political perspectives. Most people don’t seem to give it much thought, which is why I highly recommend this movie to anyone who will listen.

Things obviously need to change, but they only will if we’re ready to hear leaders who will tell us the truth – a time I hope comes before we hit absolute rock bottom.
