This is a snapshot of a postcard I scribbled out yesterday morning at Reading Terminal Market. It is, in case you can’t tell, meant as a tribute to those in law enforcement (whether or not they wear actual uniforms) — though I suppose it could be a tribute to anyone who undertakes any amount of risk on behalf of others.

Anyway, I wrote a note on the back, put a stamp on it and dropped it in the mail addressed to the Philadelphia Police, 6th District – which I had previously determined would be the focus of my first observance of Police Appreciation Monday (though I try to appreciate them everyday).

may the uniform
stand against every threat-
-never wilt or fade

the soul’s an echo
in every single cell –
- with no origin

This one’s fresh off the tip of my pen, on a piece of cardstock folded to fit inside a tiny 3” by 2” wooden frame. I’m taking bids on it from anyone who wants to buy it (watermark not included).

just a question lingering in my mind for the past few years – and I’m not really sure what the answer is.
