reversal of fortunes?

instead of inspiring consumption
then supplying the means,
let’s hand out the cash,
praying that they’ll spend it.

  1. Consumption is only attractive
    because ’tis far form reach;
    had we the lucre,
    we wouldn’t use it.

  2. the checks are made out to you and me,
    but consumption for its own sake
    is tonic only for the purveyors
    of things we don’t really need.

    (thanks for playing along Mr. Q)

  3. It’s not hard cash that burns in pockets
    out of the clear blue sky;
    it’s advertisers
    that set it on fire.

    [always a pleasure.]
