i think you've got it more or less pegged. in my experience, despite the fact that i'm not much like anyone else i know, i do alter my behavior to a certain extent, depending on my surroundings. which one's the real one? that's an excellent question — maybe i'll have that answer some day ;)

I think we're the most honest with ourselves when we're alone. At least I am. I find that the people I'm with encourage certain behaviors – like the different way we behave at work than when we're at home or with friends. I'm always reminded of Woody Allen's movie “Zelig” where a man takes on the characteristics of the people he's around, like a chameleon.
At first, it's a simple movie, but further down it's a commentary on the way we change our behavior when we're around people.
But which one is the real one?
