facades, layers, veneers, etc.

facade

It wasn’t until I tried to title this that I realized I may have already exhausted the concepts of facades, layers, veneers and other such labels that might suggest the difference between the surface and what lies beneath. Or maybe I haven’t exhausted them all just yet; perhaps I still have something to figure out about such things. Hmmm…

beneath the facade
is a me so seldom seen;
peel back the layers

  • beautiful analysis. there's probably a good 3 years worth of behavioral
    science studies in that post, Anthony.

    I think we're the most honest with ourselves when we're alone. At least I am. I find that the people I'm with encourage certain behaviors - like the different way we behave at work than when we're at home or with friends. I'm always reminded of Woody Allen's movie "Zelig" where a man takes on the characteristics of the people he's around, like a chameleon.
    At first, it's a simple movie, but further down it's a commentary on the way we change our behavior when we're around people.
    But which one is the real one?
  • i think you've got it more or less pegged. in my experience, despite the fact that i'm not much like anyone else i know, i do alter my behavior to a certain extent, depending on my surroundings. which one's the real one? that's an excellent question -- maybe i'll have that answer some day ;)
