some conversations
we should have had long ago
– now moldy and stale

There is a statute of limitations on certain subjects. My ex used to bring up stuff I did 6 months ago, and I'd wonder (a) what she was talking about and (b) how to explain something I barely remembered. But she held it in for so long that the object of her rant was not nearly as important as it would have been if it had been mentioned when I had some idea what she was talking about.

I like the concept of a limitations statute, though there are those conversations that you actually end up wishing you took the time to have. Not rants but opportunities for clarification that get away from you, and the further away they get the harder they are to take advantage of.

Have you ever put off a conversation so long, that no matter how much you want to have it, you're afraid to start it?

Yes. yes, I have. Many times.
